Is it too late for a 48 year old to develop leadership skills?

Can you answer HealthyStealthy’s question about Leadership Development?:

Say you’re a 48 year old who never was a manager at a job. You’re not a follower, but you’re certainly not a leader either. You find the proposition of being a manager frightening! Is it too late for an 48 year old to develop leadership skills?

Leadership Development Feedback: No. There are classes and good books. The biggest thing about being a leader is always be willing to jump in and help.

    Leadership Development Feedback: Hi

    Never too late.

You need to look at your own attributes first of all to identify your natural strengths and areas that you feel need to be developed.
Leadership is not always about having the right answer. It is about being strong enough to say to your team that you don’t know the answer but does anybody have an idea. You then need to make the decision. My take on leadership is to adopt a “can do” attitude. This does not mean taking reckless decisions but it does mean having the personal strength to ensure that something is being done. If its wrong, well then do something else to resolve it. The team must have confidence in you! Without that, their input will be minimal and your results will be below expectations.
I could go on but that’s enough for now
    Good luck.
