    Leadership Development Feedback: Leadership is the art of influencing others to accomplish a goal or task.

    Management is using resources (including people) to accomplish a goal or task.

    Leadership Development Feedback: One way of looking at it is that Leadership is all about change: reacting to it or initiating it, whereas Management is all about stability: keeping things on an even keel despite changes in the environment. So they are two very different skill sets in some ways.

    John P Kotter is an expert in this field, and has written extensively on the qualities required by leaders, and how leaders must distinguish themselves from Managers. His books are insightful and very readable.

    Leadership Development Feedback: You can manage the leaders by many ways: via salary, promotion, ambitions. You can lead the managers by many other ways, too.

    Manager could be CEO, general manager, and report to a leader, who is CEO, general manager etc. Or vice versa.

    Some people are born as natural leaders by qualities, abilities, or got those abilities by hard work.

    Sometimes leadership and management could work against each other. For example,in jail. Some criminals potentially could be hidden or open leaders, and prison managers should somehow deal with that.

    It’s complicated in jail, and not easier in business environment.

    We could structure the differences between leadership and management in the following aspects:
    * personal targets
    * social targets
    * moral values
    etc.

    In the ideal organization/structure the both vectors (managerial and leadership) increase each other by going in the same direction. If there is the slightest angle between them, they are diminish each other, and in the worsest case scenario, result everything to zero (useless state).

    Leadership Development Feedback: Leader can be a person which doesn’t have a position in the structure of the company like a common worker, but the people follow him and respect his opinions, (and some co-workers ask the leader).
    The Manager is the person which have a position in the structure (as a boss) and has the responsibility of these people.
    In some cases is difficult to find both qualities in the same person, but we should try to be leaders.
